Warm Up With the Library, and Find Recipes in Some of Our Fiction

Although cookbooks are certainly excellent resources for recipes to help you stay warm in the winter, did you know what some fiction books will occasionally include bonus recipes as well? For this post, we tried making “Sully’s Hot Chocolate” from Jenn McKinlay’s Books Can Be Deceiving. The result, pictured below, was rich, sweet, and chocolatey (the full recipe is definitely enough for you and a friend or two!).

McKinlay’s Library Lover’s Mysteries star a public library director and always feature recipes, crafts, and reader’s guide information relating to something in the text. Quite a few other cozy mystery series do something similar. For example, Joanna Fluke’s Hannah Swensen Mysteries include recipes, as do Leslie Budewitz’s Food Lovers’ Village Mysteries, Barbara Ross’s Maine Clambake Mysteries, and more.

It can be a little difficult to find books with bonus recipes in the Tarleton State Libraries’ catalog, although we try to include notes that they exist. One example is shown below – the “Summary, Reviews, and Awards” tab for Sara Varon’s Bake Sale notes that it includes “seven delicious recipes” (we recommend the brownies!).
